Tanjung Rhu Resort, my favourite holiday destination

Every Hari Raya for the last 21 years of Klinik Pergigian Fauziah’s existence, we take a week off for a well deserved break. It is a perfect time as Kuala lumpur empties of people and everyone, Muslims and Non-Muslims take advantage of the long holiday anyway hence there are few upsets from patients when they know we will be closed.

Since 2002, my children and I make Tanjung Rhu Resort in Langkawi, our destination for our annual holidays. Every year that is except for the last Raya holidays as my father had retired and therefor did not necessarily go away during this time.

I didn’t feel it was right for me to go on holiday during Raya when Dad would be in town, so last year we stayed in KL and did the rounds visiting the many, many relatives in and around KL.

This year as my Dad was not going away again, and I promised the boys we would go on holiday, I invited my father to join us. It was a magic moment for me when Dad said as we were

waiting for the taxi to pick us up, “I have few dreams in my Life. One was that one of my kids would take over my clinic when I retired, and that came true. Now today, one more dream is coming true … I always dreamt that I would go on holiday with my children and grandchildren.”

I almost cried when I heard him say that. Too many times we don’t speak out what we really want in Life. I had no idea my father had this dream and I was so thankful that he could have this time with us.

We had the most wonderful time at Tanjung Rhu. We were picked up by the limo at the airport and whisked to our rooms. As returnees we didn’t even have to register! The boys changed into their swim attire and proceeded to give Dad a tour of the grounds. It was great when the staff greeted us by name (I suspect they have photofits of us that they show the staff before we arrive!) and treated us like royalty!

Dad and I had the most peaceful holiday. The boys are so at home there, they just did their own thing, whilst

Dad and I walked the beaches, played table tennis, talked and dined by candle light with a four-piece quartet playing beautiful music that wafted over the premises at night. One night as we were dining, the Ex Prime Minister, Tun Abdullah Badawi with his family, walked by, much to my father’s surprise!

My father does not swim so I only got to get into the pool on the last day while he sat reading on the deck chairs. I usually romp around the pool with the boys, but this time it was Dad’s holiday with us, so they didn’t mind that I spent most of my time with Dad.

We had such a great time, the food was excellent, the service impeccable and the rooms are luxurious with flat screen TVs both in the bedroom and in the lounge area of the suites, a HUGE bathtub with marble everywhere. Shahbir even was presented with a surprise birthday cake at dinner on his birthday!

Dad certainly gave the resort full marks, especially after Melvin, the General Manager, came to see us off with a surprise box of chocolates specially made in Tanjung Rhu Resort. The chocolates were hand-made by the chefs and themed One Thousand and One Acres of Poetry …. each individual chocolate had a different theme and flavour!

The best part was when Dad asked if he could join us next year!!!
