Effective Gum Disease Treatment using Lasers and EmunDo Dye

We are very pleased to introduce the latest and most effective treatment for Gum/Perio Disease in our clinics!

Many patients we see have gum disease, where they have a lot of calculus (karang gigi) and deep pockets or spaces between their teeth and their gums. Food gets trapped easily and it’s hard to clean their teeth.

Slowly but surely the bone starts to shrink around their teeth so the patients either notice their teeth are beginning to move (especially if it’s front teeth) and begin to loosen in their mouth!!!!

Their gums bleed a lot when they brush so most patients then either avoid the gum area when they brush, or resort to all sorts of mouth rinses and tooth pastes, hoping to deal with the problem.

Receiving the certificate from Prof Martin Jorgens and Prof Marcel Wainwright

Many usually don’t see their dentist regularly anyway, so the build up of calculus has reached above the gum line and their gums look puffy and swollen, and bleed easily.

As a dentist, it’s not easy to treat gum (periodontal … perio in short) … disease. The biggest problem is not just getting the teeth totally cleaned but also removing all the germs that cause the swollen gums after the teeth are cleaned …. the gums are still swollen and cause a lot of food traps.

This is one of the reasons why I traveled to Germany last month for the Clinical Laser Course using ARC Laser and Emundo, a dye which supports photodynamic therapy.

The whole procedure is a 3-step process:

The first visit is where we do the thorough cleaning and then using the EmunDo dye to stain the diseased areas, we then use the laser to kill all (and yes, all! It kills both Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria) germs in the gum pocket.

The laser therapy is painless. The EmunDo dye couples with the bacteria membrane and needs a very low powered laser to kill the bacteria through a photodynamic process where oxygen triplets are released to have the germicidal effect … in other words, because the dye with the laser is so effective, the results are amazing! Almost every known type of bacteria in the mouth will be treated.

The second visit is done 7 days later. This is when we check the healing of the gums and measure the pockets again … because the germs had been destroyed, the gums pocketing would already be significantly less and the gums much, much healthier! As necessary, EmunDo dye and lasers will be applied again.

The third visit would be 6 weeks later. Again we examine and check the gum pockets so as to make sure that the gums are healthy and free of inflammation.

This new procedure that we now have in the clinics will bring a lot of relief to patients who have been worried about their gums and worried that they may end up with losing teeth.

It is painless, effective and very non-invasive … that’s why it doesn’t hurt!

We live in a health conscious age and many studies are beginning to find links between gum disease with higher incidences of heart attacks, diabetes, early birth for pregnant mothers, arthritic problems and rheumatism. This is one very effective way to ensure we reduce the chances of having these related diseases!

If you’d like to watch a video on the procedure please click here Course of Treatment and you’ll see what how we mix the dye and just drop it on the gum surface before using the Laser to activate it. You’ll notice that the dye is easily and completely removed at the end of the treatment procedure so there are no stains left.

Smiling after hands-on instruction from Prof Volland in Germany

The dye is no longer visible after a few minutes, there is no colouring of the gums (or lips or tongue!).

I am very excited that we now can treat gum disease effectively … and most of all it is painless!!! This is something that I feel is important as this is the most common fear people have about dental treatment.

Please call up the clinic at 03-26911334 or 03-26917359 (speak to Lyn or Damalis) for a consultation so I can examine and explain the whole procedure if you think you can benefit from this.

Remember, healthy gums = healthy people!
