Wisdom Teeth removal by Dr. Aaron Lai

What exactly are Wisdom teeth?

Generally, we have 4 wisdom teeth, two on upper and two on lower, one on each side of the jaw. More often than not, wisdom teeth may grow sides way/ crooked/misaligned which eventually causes problem to our oral health. Wisdom teeth usually grow through the gums during the late teens or early twenties. Because of the lack of space, the wisdom teeth can sometimes emerge at an angle or get stuck and only partially emerge. Wisdom teeth that grow through like this are known as impacted.

What to expect after surgery if I decide to remove my wisdom teeth?

Rest assured, the removal of wisdom teeth, or third molars, is one of the most common procedures carried out in Klinik Pergigian Fauziah but there are a few things you should be aware of as well.
Everyone responds differently to wisdom teeth removal. Most people have little to no pain after surgery and you are likely to have swelling and discomfort for a few days to a week. Your mouth may need a few weeks to completely heal. In some cases, severe pain and swelling may occur sometimes but don’t worry we will prescript you with pain killers and anti-inflammatory drugs to help you recover faster.
Here are some tips to follow so you can heal faster.

-Bite gently on the gauze pad for 1-2 hours, and change pads as they become soaked with blood (generally it is every 30 minutes). Call us if you still have bleeding 24 hours after your surgery.
-Rinse with mouth wash that contain chlorhexidine or salt water, 1-2 days after surgery for 3 X a day
-Drink enough of water everyday
-Call us if you develop fever or pain and swelling that is not improving
-Use an ice pack on your face to reduce swelling
-Follow our instruction and eat medicine on time
-Eats soft diet for 1-3 days after surgery

-Smoke as smoking may causes dry sockets (severe infection) and slow the process of healing
-Drink with straws right after surgery (1 hour) as it may causes bleeding
-Touch the wound with finger or object as it may cause infection to the wound
-Rinse after surgery (1 hour) as it will dislodge the blood clot and causes bleeding again till it forms another blood clot
-Eat spicy and solid food for 1-3days that may disturb the wound healing process
-Exercise if possible as it may causes more bleeding

When should I see a dentist to remove it?
