NEVER TOO OLD FOR A MAKEOVER : DR. DINI
Hello there đ
Some people, once they have reached a certain age, they might feel that theyâre just âtoo oldâ for certain things â maybe going out in skin-tight animal-print clothing, or dancing on the tabletops. Or perhaps even getting a complete cosmetic dental makeover. I canât speak to the first two⌠but if youâve been reluctant to smile because you arenât satisfied with the way your teeth look, then all I can say is: What are you waiting for? The fact is, you donât have to live with teeth that are chipped, crooked, stained or missing â because with modern cosmetic dentistry, youâre never too old to get the smile youâve always wanted.
Mr. Zul is a 62 years old retiree who has never been happy with his smile. He didn’t like his crowded teeth and also the fact that nearly all his teeth was shaky also made him reluctant to smile wide. Thus, it’s making him appears somewhat unapproachable.
He first came to see me about a month ago requesting for a consultation. After a thorough examination, this is what I found in the case of Mr. Zul.
Mr Zul had a severe periodontitis( inflammation of the tissue around the teeth, often causing shrinkage of the gums and loosening of the teeth) especially on his lower teeth. All the remaining lower teeth was very shaky and couldn’t be salvage.
“What can you do for me doctor?” he asked, as he sat relaxed on the dental chair.
âI feel uncomfortable every time I talk to people and on top of that, my grandchildren always tease me about my teeth.â he added.
I pulled out the Examination and Diagnosis sheet and started explaining his condition. I also explained in detail his treatment options, including the cost and procedure of each treatment.
He was satisfied with the explanation and asked me to start the treatment on his upper teeth first.
For his upper teeth, I suggested Mr. Zul to extract the ‘tucked-in ‘ right lateral incisor and replace the missing tooth with Fiber Reinforced Composite (FRC) Bridge. While, on the left side, all he needed was a single composite veneer on the lateral incisor and he could have his dream smile in less than 2 hours.
âWhat is composite veneers?â he asked with a hint of smile. (I forgot to explained to him about composite veneer! Silly me!)
âLet me show you.â I replied.
I promised him it will look nice and he wonât regret doing it. Mr. Zul instantly said yes and gave me the thumbs up to do the veneer and also the FRC bridge.
I promised her it will look nice and she wonât regret doing it. Mr. Zul instantly said yes and gave me the thumbs up to do the transformation.
I started off with the usual scaling polishing and two hours later, I passed him a mirror to look at his reflection. He turned towards me. Again, he looked in the mirror in disbelief and turned towards me one more time.
âUnbelievable doctor!â he said.
âThank you so much. This is what I wanted and you made it come true in such a short time and without pain as well!.â he added.
I pointed out to him that perfectly straight teeth at his age would not look natural and that was why I had to make them the way they were now.
âPerfect!â he said.
That made my day.
Before, we bade good bye, I reminded Mr. Zul to make new appointment as soon as possible for extraction his lower teeth so we could construct his lower denture . He nodded and replied, ” Yes doctor, I will do it since I am no longer afraid of dentist.” He winked at me and all I could do was laughed hard.
He went into the treatment looking fierce and unfriendly, nevertheless he got out of the room as another person, all hilarious and jolly.
Now, how was that didn’t make me happy? đ
Love,
Dr. Dini (dini@story.drfauziah.com)
