That Annoying Gap – Dr Adyan
Do you ever look at yourself in the mirror, smile as bright as you can, and then notice one or more things that annoy you?
For me, when I was younger, my greatest dilemma when my picture was being taken, was to decide whether I should smile wide and show my teeth OR should I keep my lips close together and try to smile even if it would look awkward?
I had many thoughts on that and finally begged my parents to get my teeth fixed with braces.
That was one of the best decisions I made in my life. Although I was afraid to go to the dentist, I took the first step by deciding that I needed to fix my smile.
Now, enough of my boring childhood tale. Let’s get to know this patient of mine who was annoyed at the gap she had between her lower front teeth. Whenever she looked at herself in the mirror or in pictures, she would notice how the gap affected her smile.
So she decided that THAT.GAP.MUST.GO.
I applauded her for taking the very first step to a better smile – deciding that she wanted to improve her smile!
We had a chat before I started examining her teeth. I understood when she said she felt annoyed by that gap, because it was definitely noticeable! Maybe to some other people that gap doesn’t matter, but that gap made her very conscious of her smile.
We discussed the various treatment options available to solve the gap problem. I suggested for an orthodontic treatment (braces) but she preferred a quick fix to close the gap immediately. Therefore, two cosmetic fillings were done to improve her smile.
Could you even notice she had any procedures done on her lower teeth if you didn’t see the ‘before’ photo?
She was very happy as we closed the gap in a single-visit and had very little drilling with no pain during the whole procedure!
Now she’s confident in smiling beautifully as she said goodbye to the annoying gap!
