Smile with No Regrets – Dr. Adyan
Throughout my career as a dentist, I’ve met thousands of patients, and every single one of them is unique. Let me tell you a story of this one patient of mine who had left a significant memory.
When we first met in the clinic, we didn’t start right away with examining her teeth. She sat down at the chair next to my table and we conversed about why she came and how I could help her.
The gap between her two front teeth was hindering her from smiling widely and confidently. She showed me her pictures in her phone – and I could understand her concern as not even in one of her pictures did she smile while showing her teeth. She was even shy to speak to other people because she noticed that they would stare at the gap. Her confidence level was very low.
But what was more endearing about this patient was, she’s a cancer survivor. When she was diagnosed with cancer, she was depressed at first. But she got back up, and lived her life to the fullest. She didn’t want to live with any regrets.
And that’s why she finally came to us to fix her smile. It’s now or never, she thought.
She had been following our Instagram for a while, every day she’d scroll our Instagram feed and wondered when she would be able to come to change her smile. She made the first step by contacting us for a consultation. And that was all it took.
When she came, she had lots of questions and I answered every single one of them to relieve her of her concerns. She was then confident to proceed with 2 composite veneers to close the gap.
She did note that she wanted a natural appearance when we close the gap – she didn’t want anything that would look like ‘fake teeth’.
I accepted that challenge, and I was also very inspired with her story and her strong will. It took an hour to close the gap and I paid extra attention in making sure that it would look natural. I even conserved the uneven tooth edge (mamelons) as per her request to obtain the natural look of the veneers.
After finishing the veneers, I could sense her mixed emotions – both anxious and excited to see her new smile.
As soon as she looked at the mirror, she gasped in awe. She couldn’t believe that the gap was gone.
“It looks so natural, like there was nothing wrong with my teeth in the first place!” she exclaimed.
She got out of the dental chair and I kid you not, she literally jumped in happiness while saying that I saved her life. That was how happy she was. I couldn’t help but smiled together when I saw how happy she was. Intuitively both of us hugged each other as we both knew how important this was to her.
The first thing she did after that was taking a photo of herself on the phone while smiling – this time she showed her teeth confidently. When she looked at the picture, she couldn’t help but scream as she was elated to see how great her smile looked like.
On her review visit, there was a different aura surrounding her. She exuded confidence when she entered the room. And she showed me her pictures on her phone, now she smiled while flashing her beautiful teeth.
She also told me how life was going on very well for her. Her friends noticed that she looked better; they knew something was different about her but they couldn’t detect what it was. And she was very happy with that, because her veneers were natural-looking, no one could guess that she even had veneers on her teeth.
Even if it’s just teeth, it really can make a big difference in someone’s life. And this is why I love my job so much, it makes people so happy.
