Say NO to fake veneers, please. – Dr Tan Swee Ling

Dental Veneers are wafer-thin, custom-made shells of tooth-coloured materials, designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve your appearance. These shells are bonded to the front of the teeth, changing their colour, shape, size, or length.

For those of you who are quite updated in social media would know, there are beauticians who provide door-to-door service, placing composite veneers that are commonly opaque white in colour, and more or less squarish in shape, giving the appearance of a row of mentos when you smile.

I was given a chance to have met a patient, who flew in from Sabah, with these mentos. She did not like them, regretted having them done, and decided to get professional help in achieving her natural smile for her wedding that was planned to happen soon!

Patient thought they were too opaque and appeared fake.

She must be a very lucky bride-to-be because her soon-to-be mother-in-law was so supportive of her getting those fake veneers off, and having them replaced by a professional. She even insisted to fly from Sabah to Kuala Lumpur to us because she was once our patient too!

Oh, boy was it a lengthy procedure! It took me about 2 hours 30 minutes to have the fake ones removed and creating her new smile again!

Her transformation.
Her teeth are naturally yellowish and had multiple caries, resulting in an unattractive smile.
Now after having her veneers done with us, she now owns a confident smile!

She was very happy with this result that she even came back the next day to have more veneers done!

I am glad to have made someone’s day brighter.
As always, Happy Patient, Happy Dentist.
