Alhamdulillah Ramadhan Al-Mubarak descends upon us once again. It is the time of the year where all Muslims will be fasting for a full whole month from dawn until sunset. Ramadhan is a month for discipline, self-control, patience and good behaviour. In the holy fasting month, Muslims are expected by their fasting to become more pious and grow closer to God, Allah.

Islam is a religion that does not make things difficult for its followers; rather the guidelines provided are meant to benefit the people. The action of swallowing or inserting something unintentionally into an open cavity on any part of one’s body does not invalidate one’s fast. Therefore inadvertent swallowing of water spray from a handpiece during scaling or filling or blood during extraction does not breaks one’s fast. Administration of local anaesthetic (injections) is also permissible.
