Dental crown : Dr Nik

Dental crown : Dr Nik

In dentistry, a crown refers to a dental cap, a type of restoration that completely cap or encircle a tooth. Crowns are used to protect, cover and restore the shape of damaged teeth, most of the time due to large cavities that fillings alone will not solve the problems or maybe there’s crack line on the tooth and by putting on a crown will help to stop the crack line from propagate further.

Dental crowns can be made out of metals, porcelain, resin and ceramic. Dentist will advice patients on the best material for their teeth.

Patient will need at least two visits to the dentist to prepare for a dental crown. Interval between the visits is 2 weeks. Bulk of the treatment are during the first visit where trimming of the tooth across the top and sides surfaces are done. Temporary resin crown fabricated and will be temporarily cemented to the tooth to protect the tooth until the actual permanent crown is ready. On the second visit (when the permanent crown is ready), if the fitting and the colour of the permanent crown is ok, the crown will be cemented permanently to the prepared tooth.

Below are before and after photos of my recent crown case. The reason to crown her tooth was because there was a crack line on the tooth.

Immediately after fitting, checking the bite and cementing the crown, the tooth can function as usual.

Needed a crown treatment too? Don’t hesitate to call us for an appointment and we will attend to you and do the needful. Looking forward to see you.
