I was honoured to have met a beautiful patient a few days ago who was slightly nervous to see the dentist.
She had not been a regular dental patient but that day she showed up at the clinic and requested for a check-up on her teeth. Luckily for her, there were no caries on her teeth, YET!
I explained to her that she still needed to come regularly to the clinic, at least once every 6 months so that we could ensure her teeth and gums are in good condition, and if there was any problems like caries it can be detected early thus avoiding the need of more extensive treatment or even extraction!
She had some calculus (tartar, karang gigi) bothering her teeth and gums so we did a full mouth scaling and polishing to remove the calculus.
You can note there was some bleeding on her gums which indicated that there was quite a thickness of calculus prior to scaling. However, the patient just need to maintain a good oral hygiene, and her gums will return to normal without any more bleeding.
As you can also see in the picture, she has a small gap between her two front tooth. She would like to close the gap at the same visit, therefore we discussed her options and agreed to proceed with cosmetic composite fillings to close the gap.
Voila!
The gap is closed in just one visit, you wouldn’t even know that she had a gap before that! You’d notice the teeth had white spots right after the treatment but fear not! That’s because the teeth are dehydrated during the treatment.
In 24 hours, the white spots will disappear, the teeth will return to it’s natural shade and blend with the composite nicely!
Now the patient can smile confidently without worrying about that annoying gap at the center!
